Derby Blogging

by Christina on Feb.24, 2009, under Poetry, Roller Derby

Here is a blog entry by our awesome fellow derby girl, Erin Hall a.k.a Lady And The Trample.

You can check out other blog entries and tons of random goodies at our website. www.sjderbygirls.com.

“My first time jamming was pretty sweet, I didn’t fall or get knocked off my feet.

Jam One wasn’t that great, the floor made it so hard to skate.

But by jam two I knew just what to do, I figured out exactly how to get through.

You gotta stay low, skate knees to chest. That’s how I got by those blockers best.

Jam three, well that still confuses me. All I remember are a lot of voices yelling at me.

Jam four I got right past that the pack, I looked straight ahead and never looked back.

Right when I was about to score, I got blocked into a wall, but I didn’t hit the floor.

I got stuck 20 ft. back, and couldn’t catch up with the pack.

I figured out some other great ways to get through, but I’ll never tell, just in case I play you!”

Friday The 13th

by Christina on Feb.16, 2009, under Movies

My boyfriend took me to see Friday The 13th for Valentine’s Day. I got one word for it…..AWESOME!

If you have not seen it yet, go see it NOW.

We got to the theater a half hour early. It’s a good thing to, because the line for the movie was already out the door.

When we got in and looked for seats there weren’t many left. We sat in the second to first row. I didn’t mind how close we were, but Rob did. So, it was a little uncomfortable for him. The seating did not ruin any part of the movie for me, what so ever.

I won’t tell you anything that might give anything away. However, if you’ve ever seen a Jason flick you probably already know what goes down. I will tell you my favorite thing about this version. He’s not dumb. Jason, that is. He’s smart as hell and knew exactly what he was doing.

The older version portrayed him as some big half-wit psycho who killed cause his mommy told him so. That is only partly right. Ever wonder how he got around so fast? One minute he’s killing by the lake, the next minute hes got ahold of the half naked girl in the cabin. Well, they show you how he did it. They tell you exactly how he got around and where he took the bodies so that no one found them.

Two thumbs up, five stars, kudos, etc.

Don’t take my word for it, go see it. You will not be disappointed.

Art Inpsires

by Christina on Feb.10, 2009, under Picture Adventures

I’d like to give a shout out to my dearest friend George. A true artist, he ever inspires me, and never ceases to amaze me.

If you’re from the Central/North NJ or NYC area you’ve probably passed by some of his work. The man is a machine. Making the world a more colorful place, one wall at a time.

Drop by his Myspace and check out his work. Make sure you show him some love! www.myspace.com/rgeorgem

For your viewing pleasure I have attached his newest piece. Enjoy!

Photography Class

by Christina on Feb.04, 2009, under Picture Adventures

I started this photography class on Monday at Camden Co College.  Its every Monday for eight weeks from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. I paid $55 to register back in December.

That being said, I arrived on time ready to start. However, the class was 15min late due to another class finishing up in our classroom.  Also, it ended at 7:45pm. Ok, so I’m no mathematician, but isn’t that only an hour?

The teacher was very nice, but soft spoken. Not a very good quality in a class of 23.

At first glance, I think the class itself will be bogus. I am, however, very pleased with the assignments. In them I feel I will truly grow as a photographer. Also, at the end of the eight weeks, we will get a ton of take home assignments to do as we wish. Awesome!

Let me give you an example of my first assignment.

1. Pick a photo from a magazine and try to recreate it.

2. Take a photo form a “birds eye” view. Take the same photo from a “worms eye” view.

3. Take a picture from across the room. Take the same picture from 4ft away. Then again very close up.

4. Slow yourself down and take a photo of something you pass everyday and never stopped to look at.

5. Use your cameras self timer and take a self-portrait.

6. Compose a self-portrait without you in it that best describes your personality.

Very cool, right? I think everything on this list will be a ton of fun. After all, that’s why I’m doing it. I’m excited to get started. I’m also interested in seeing what the future weeks will bring.

Feel free to do these assignments as well, if photography is of any interest to you.

If you would like to take this particular glass next semester, and you live in or close to Camden County, please visit http://www.camdencc.edu/ for more info.
