Where Did KRock Go?

by Christina on Mar.24, 2009, under Music

I don’t know if you remember an earlier post of mine called Rock And Roll Is Dead. It was a story about The Jonas Brothers on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine.

Well, it seems that the music industry continues to validate my point.

Yesterday, I went up to my hometown of Keyport, NJ. Like every trip, when I got to exit 8 on the turnpike, I tuned the FM dial to 92.3. To my surprise, it wasn’t rock I heard. It was Britany Spears. WHAT!?!?!?

If you’re from central/north NJ, you know that 92.3 is the only station for mainstream rock. No, not anymore.

Krock is now 92.3 Now FM. A cheesy rip-off of Z100. Today’s hottest pop music. Yeah, cause we don’t have enough of that garbage.

I am not amused!

Where do we go for good rock? Where can we listen to Opie and Anthony in the morning?

From this moment on, I am voting Satellite Radio. Boycott your stereos fellow rock fans! Revolt! Are we seriously going to take this lying down?

God, I hope this is not truly the end. I’m not looking forward to living in a world of plastic people, in latest fashions, dancing in the streets to Miley Cyrus.

My First Game

by Christina on Mar.18, 2009, under Roller Derby

I spent Saturday in Richmond, VA winning my first roller derby game! Thank you, thank you. Congrats are in order so feel free!

The drive was about four hours each way. Gas wasn’t so bad, and that’s saying a lot for my V6 sports car.

We played at The Roller Dome against the Richmond Derby Demons.

First, the rink was nice and big. They are remodeling so the floor was sanded down. That was actually my favorite thing about playing at this rink. If you’ve ever skated before you know how slippery some surfaces can be. Well, a sanded down surface is perfect for derby damage! It has awesome traction.

Second, the team was really good. They have a heavy hitting blocker named Demolitia Durga. WOW! She knocked me down a few times. Her name definatley suits her.

Our team had four rookies play that day, me being one of them. We were all super nervous and excited.

Whatever we did worked, because we shut them out by 40 points. If you’re unsure just how derby works, check out some vids @ www.youtube.com.

The Demons were a bit sore at us for embarrassing them on home turf. But, we bought them a few drinks at the after party and they quickly got over that.

We play them again in August. This time I’m gonna be ready for Durga!

Thursday in Philly

by Christina on Mar.09, 2009, under Concerts, Music

On Friday, March 6th at 8:00pm, my boyfriend and I arrived at the Electric Factory in Philly to see Thursday and the rest of the Taste Of Chaos tour. Ok, so we didn’t really care to see the rest of the tour.

The line up consisted of Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce The Veil, Four Years Strong, Cancer Bats, and finally the headliners, Thursday.

First, if your ever planning on catching a show in that city, DON’T DRIVE. Let public transportation be your friend.

Second, we left the house late in hopes of catching Thursday, having a few drinks, and being on our way. Wow, the night could not have gone farther from the plan.

Thursday didn’t come on until 10:30. If you, like us listened to their Myspace, you would’ve been slightly misinformed. We expected 8:00.

Also on a side note, my boyfriend has a broken toe. No pit for him! That pretty much just leaves the bar as hang out spot #1.

By the time our band did come on, we were a little pissed, a little drunk, and a lot out of money. Nothing for me to do at that point but head into the pit and slam out the rest of the evening.

As far as the set went, of course it was awesome! Thursday is one of the best live bands of this generation. Also, they played War All The Time, which is my fav. So, that alone in my book gives them a two thumbs up.

The crowd? Oh man, what crowd? I’ve seen Thursday now in NJ, NYC, and PA. I must say there is no place more energetic and crazy then NYC. Now that I’ve been to a Philly show, I’ll say there is no place more boring and lifeless. The people just stood there on the floor in front of the stage. Emo kids with there hair in their faces and tight pants, gag me.

Metal was made for moshing. If you’re not into it, go sit in the seats and leave the floor to the big kids.

I WILL see Thursday again! I will, however, not being doing it in Philly, umm ever again.

Happy Birthday!

by Christina on Mar.02, 2009, under Random Things

Just wanted to share with you all that it’s my birthday!

Also, a fun fact on who I share my birthday with: Dr. Seuss!

How awesome is that?!?!

However, I am sick. There is also 5in of snow on the ground. My boyfriend would’ve taken me out for the day if not for the snow. Oh, and a few days ago he broke his toe!

Such is life. I’m gonna try to make the best of it anyhow.

Big 28! Don’t you dare say “almost 30″!

Have a great day everyone! I’m sure most of you got a snow day out of it.
