May In A Nut Shell

by Christina on May.30, 2009, under Books, Movies, Random Things, Roller Derby

Well folks, May is almost gone. Summer will be in full swing shortly, and I know most of you are just as excited as I am!

Listed below are my top 5 favorite things about how I spent MY month of May. Enjoy!

1. Colossal Coastal Roller Expo: Our awesome roller derby weekend in Wildwood. I’m still recovering!

2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine: What can I say? Wow! Action packed. However, if you’re a comic book junkie, you will not be pleased about the way they changed the story around. Ladies? Three words for you. Hugh Jackman naked! Nuff said.

3. Terminator Salvation: The greatest thing about this movie is the machines. There are so many new and exciting terminators, including old favs like a CGI version of Arnold! The plot is a little better then the previous movies. Still, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

4. Skinny Bitch: If you have not read this book, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? It has completely changed my life. I hope, for the sake of the world, that it changes yours as well.

5. Aidan Parker Santos: My newest nephew and newest member of the pack. He was born on May 27th. I currently now have 2 nieces, 2 nephews, and 1 sister! Boy, she keeps busy! I love you Gypsy.

So, that’s my month. Note: this post in no way lists the best event first. They are in chronological order, for I am an overly organized, obsessive compulsive, neat freak!

Twilight

by Christina on Apr.11, 2009, under Books, Movies, Music

I just recently finished the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. Actually, I borrowed the complete set from a friend just 2 weeks ago! It took me a total of 5 days to read it. What did I like about it? EVERYTHING.

I’m hooked! Completely in love with the story, the characters, and the idea of it all.

A short while after I finished the first book, I sat down to watch the movie. Although, it is no where near as good as the book, it is definitely worth watching.  I find myself watching it at least once a day just to keep Bella and Edward in my life.

Robert Pattinson is the character who plays Edward Cullen. You may remember him as Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter movies. He is amazing!

The soundtrack to the movie offers many lovely tunes such as Bella’s Lullaby. It also includes a couple songs by Robert Pattinson. His voice is new and different. It sends chills down my spine.

So, as you can see between the books, the movie, and the soundtrack, obviously Twilight had taken over my life. Not that I mind! I’ve always been one to hide away in the fantasy worlds of books.

On a more sour note, the author of the series has decided to put the 5th book on hold indefinitely, due to an Internet leak. However, you can read about 265 pages of the rough draft if you visit her website. www.stepheniemeyer.com

The story of Midnight Sun is nothing more than Twilight from Edward’s point of view. Still, I can’t help but be disappointed that it is not going to be released. Maybe some day we’ll be able to change her mind. For now though, I guess I’ll just have to make due with what I have.

Please read, watch, listen, love, and enjoy all of it! It is an experience you don’t want to miss. Below you’ll find my favorite lines of the story.

Edward: “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.”

Bella: “What a stupid lamb.”

Edward: “What a sick, masochistic lion.”

Butcher Bird

by Christina on Apr.02, 2009, under Books

I’ve always believed that the best kinds of books are the ones we borrow from friends. The reason for this is because, you didn’t have to spend any money. Also, when the book is finished, you don’t need to rearrange your already over crowded book case to make room.

I recently borrowed a book called Butcher Bird by Richard Kadrey from my awesome friend Ann.

A little bit in the author: He has written a few other books(none that I have read, but are on my list), and has a blog that hasn’t been updated since 2007.

This particular book however, is amazing. It combines sci fi with actual fact. The plot keeps you moving and the characters make you fall in love.

If you’re into tattoos, chicks with swords, and the battle between Heaven and Hell, then this book is for you!

Check it out and/or purchase it at my favorite place to get paperbacks: www.amazon.com

Happy reading!

the all time fictional series

by Christina on Aug.09, 2008, under Books

This post is reserved strictly for those who appreciate fantasy fiction.

The author is George R.R. Martin. The series is A Song Of Fire And Ice. Please, check out this series if you want to be mesmerized by a book.

The first book in the series is A Game Of Thrones.

I was truned onto this author by a co-worker of mine and haven’t been the same ever since. I must warn you, it’s been over a year since the 5th installment has been due. However, by the time you read the four books he may do what he’s been saying he’s gonna do. Which is release the 5th book! If not, his website is www.goergerrmartin.com. Write that man and demand its release!

Just kidding, your email may mean nothing. It’s worth a shot though.

Anyhow, if you get into the series, let me know what you think. I wouldn’t want to be the only one with an obsession.
