Music To Feed The Soul

Do you know who TonyVacca is?  Have you had the pleasure of hearing or seeing his World Rythms? Well, what are you waiting for!  http://www.tonyvacca.com/

Back in February a few friends and I attended a drum workshop taught by this amazing man. In a sweet little cafe in New Paltz, NY. we learned the wonders of percussion, and later that evening were invited to see Tony’s performance for the Full Moon Celebration. I believe video and/or audio of the days events will eventually be posted to the cafe’s website. https://www.slashrootcafe.com

One of the friends that joined me, Jon bought a Djembe back in October at The 15th Annual Harvest Festival Freedom Fair and Political Rally. http://www.damnsam.com. That event was also the first time I ever say Tony Vacca’s World Rythms. It AMAZING! Being there live with a heightened sense of consciousness was literally a full body experience.

I digress a little I think! So, Jon brought his Djembe to the workshop to learn how to play and tune and just become one with his drum. The rest of us didn’t have our own instruments so we borrowed Tony’s. There was all kinds of cool things! Bongos, a full drum set, maracas, all kinds of cow bells and double bells, and a balafon.

I instantly fell i n love with the balafon. I didn’t get to play it because so many people felt the way I do about it. So when I got home te next day I bought one. That’s right, I bought one. For those of you who don’t know what a balafon is,  it is an african xylophone.

So now my soulful friends and I are gonna have some seriously awesome jam sessions!

We have found a new love in percussion and I can only speak for myself when I say, the balafon is just the begining of my collection.

In life we need music. Some of us need to listen to it and some of us need to create it. Which group are you in?

Michael Jackson Is Dead

by Christina on Jun.26, 2009, under Music, Random Things

Text messages, phone calls, Twitters, Myspace blogs, and your Facebook status……STOP THE MADNESS!

I don’t care. Period. People I know are crying like they knew him. Radio stations are playing his music over and over and over. That hasn’t been done since 1989.

This man has had zero music produced in the last 12 years. In that time though, he managed to mangle his appearance and his reputation. Or did you all forget? He likes to touch little boys…hello?

Whatever.

Some may say they want to remember him the way he first came on the scene. That can be done. His music will live on forever. However, the man, the child molester is dead. so, put on Thriller, do a little tribute dance, and move the @%$& on.

I sent a very funny text last night. I’ll share it with you.
“Due to the fact that Michael Jackson was 90% plastic, his body will be melted down and turned into army men, so little boys can play with him for a change.”
Classic funny! Well, some replies were disappointing. “That upsets me.”, “Too soon.”, “Awwww.”

Oh, bite me. If you can’t take a joke, just close your ears and go back to mourning “The King Of Pop”. Cause you know, you guys were like totally besties and everything. Pffft. Pathetic.
